on a city street

 A chill fog touches
the gray sidewalk.

A tall woman and a tiny girl,
hand in hand, move slowly.

At the corner, a long pause,
perhaps a rest.

The girl looks up.
In slow grace

the woman bends forward,
kisses the child.

  1. You captured a moment in time. Mindful watching and then writing what was in your heart. I like the photo - the way the foreground is sharp and then fades to the background. It's very cold here in CO, Duff. We skied briefly this AM but nearly froze. Tomorrow's another day!

  2. Powerful, concise, impactful. I loved this. Does the photo have particular significance? The poem conveys, to me, peace and grace. Does the fog do the same?

  3. Thanks, Barb and Scott. I have struggled with that poem. In reality, the little girl had braces on both legs and the woman was not physically attractive, very "plain" and awkwardly tall. But, the interaction was of such caring and love for one another that it brought tears. Absolute beauty showing through in both of them. I haven't figured out how to deal with all that without it being either sentimental or exploitative.

The photo is not of great significance....just kind of lovely and fog. I do find fog peaceful, especially in how it quiets the urban din.
