Dangerous resting place

A quiet Sunday morning,
watching this tiny hummingbird
build a nest in a towering Avocado tree.
Frantic coming and going,
then, she rests on a branch
of a dangerous and beautiful Angel’s Trumpet.
Uncaring about its toxicity
and seeming at peace.

  1. I'm wondering, Duff, do you think the Hummer knows of the plant's toxicity and decides that's where it's a safe place to nest? I'm sitting on my deck here In CO and a Hummer just whizzed to some of my pots before flitting elsewhere. Such energy! I've been considering doing Stones for the month of July, though I don't think Kaspa and Fiona are hosting. Maybe tomorrow - too tired this evening.

  2. When we stayed in Palm Springs a few months ago, there was a cactus outside the back door with thorns on it at least four inches long. And tucked between two of those thorns was a hummingbird nest. Tiny little thing. They're pretty crazy creatures. Love this pic.
