Small Stone: January 6, 2013

One of the tallest trees
in the City is in a back garden,
down the block.
I see it growing every morning,
but many days don't notice.

What did the person who planted a seedling,
perhaps a hundred years ago,
know of duration or time?

  1. I wonder if the person who planted the tree thought of its possibilities years down the road.

  2. "One of the tallest trees in the City is in a back garden". That statement is, to me, the essence of the city itself. A wonderful observation. Thanks.

    1. Actually, I meant native trees. There are probably eucalyptus that tall or taller somewhere in the Presidio or GG Park.

  3. I read this early morning and must have been distracted - I don't think I commented. Now, it's evening - another day done. I think the same thing constantly about the ancient forests I pass through here in CO. What were they like 100 years ago and who passed through them as I now do? What will they be like 100 years from now when we are gone?
